About Toto
Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also famous studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The name comes from the Latin word which means "all inclusive," the group was determined to explore every style of music.
In 1981, Toto's third album Turn Back was a flop however, they bounce back with their fourth album Isolation which contains two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour made them a household name around the globe.
After a gap of few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. It's a change from the ballads of their previous albums and includes some heavy rock. The album was their first album to go platinum in North America.
During the recording of the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and is faced with financial difficulties. They decide to change their name and create a new album with the new producer. The lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen is let go and replaced by Joseph Williams, son of the legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and gives the band a much-needed boost.
In 1999, the band release Mindfields and begin an extensive worldwide tour. After a few months in Europe they head to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a brief hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993. The album features a cover of Weezer's hit song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's coverage of Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring band includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest, as well as keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.

The next year, Toto toured together with Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band. This was the last time all of Toto's original members were together on stage at the same time. After that, the group disbanded once again. Toto reunited for the benefit concert in 2010 to raise funds for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time that all original Toto members appeared on stage together in over 31 years. The original members were joined by keyboardist Greg Tambu who filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate who filled in for Shem von Schroeck.

Toto has been one of the most popular rock groups for more than three decades, having scored huge hits like "Rosanna," "Hold The Line," and their 8X platinum smash, "Africa."
